Hydraulics on a '47 M

I am going to start working on restoring soon. Cut my teeth on this tractor in the 70's. I know it has hydraulics, but when I asked why we didn't use them my Dad (now deceased) just said they didn't work. I have the original manual but there is no mention of hydraulic capability. We also never used the starter because the generator just never worked either. Where can I go for info mainly on the hydraulic issue. Besides these two problems, and a radiator that is shot, it ran like a top when last parked about ten years ago. This will be a project for my 9 year old son and I to work on. I would appreciate any help.
