When ever starting, make sure the clutch is IN, the gear selector in in Neutral, and the brakes are depressed. as well that that the PTO is not engaged never put yourself in a situation where yo uare between machinery and a wall... When working on, or around Tractors or machinery, always watch for others, and leave yourself a "way out" in any and every situation should something unexpected occur..like stopping 5 or more car lengths behind the car in front of you at a stop light when its raining, never know when the person behind you is going to skid, wouldnt it be nice to be able to give them an extra 50 feet?
