Sam in NS is correct. I had to walk out and check mine and the nut just behind the pulleys is part of the spindle. This is where you need a slender wrench. You should be able to turn the spindle loose from the back nut. If not, you may need to find a way to hold that back nut with something. I've always had luck without having to get on that back nut. Sorry for the confusion. It doesn't seem to be one of IH's better designs!
