The casting numbers are like the one you described except they are normally raised lettering preceeded and followed by what look like screw heads. The casting codes are given as Month-Day-Year. The year is a letter and as 1953 is Y, X is likely to be 1952 (there is one year, 1951 I think when two or three letters were used). Even if your serial no. tag is missing there is another way. If you look at the top front corner of the block on the right hand side beneath the number one spark plug there is a raised flat spot. If you clean this you should find the motor serial number which probably doesn't match the chassis serial number but will be close. I hope this helps. SAm in NS
