Why are MD main bearings so expensive?

My grandpa has an old MD sitting out in back of the barn that has caught my eye, since it is a pretty rare tractor, but it's a bit discouraging when I look at the Bates Corporation site and see a set of main bearings for $595. Now I know that these parts are no longer mass produced, but what can possibly be so special about them to justify that kind of money for a set of mains? When I look at a set of H mains, they're more like $70. I know that there's more demand for H parts, but what's the real difference between the main bearings in an H and the main bearings in an MD that makes a $525 difference? Sorry for being so long winded, but it makes a guy wonder...
