YC: Here in New Brunswick we have quite a bit of Hemlock and Tamarack. Both are wonderful woods to use for outdoor applications. The company that provides me with the TD 7 and the JD-644D to play with in the summer replaced all the wood deck on their float that hauls the dozer about 2 years ago. They used Hemlock and a couple of good coats of 10weight oil. The deck is holding up famously. Hemlock is a very dense wood that compares favourably with the oaks, ashes and elms and is substantially cheaper. Wears very well. Might be worth looking into in your neck of the woods.
