Been there-done that, a couple of times, on both the Cub and on the C. Used contact cement and pasted 2 layers of inner tube rubber (nicely cut and fit, I might add), both have worked fine for quite a while now. I used two layers because I could. Besides, the theory is that when one layer is worn through I'll be able to see that wear before the other layer wears thru and a short happens. Burns on my fingers I can tolerate, burns elsewhere - I'm not too sure about.
