Obvious signs are if it has been changed from generator to alternator. If it still has the generator you could see if it looks original, check the regulator same way. If it has a resistor in the line from the ignition to the coil it is probably 12 volt. The original 6 volt is positive ground, does it look like this is or not. If the distributor is hooked to the positive terminal on the coil it is positive ground.
