jrex: The 560 tractor serial number is located on the left side of the clutch housing. The engine serial number will be on the engine itself, I don't remember exactly where. Just under number one plug or injector was the common place for engine serial numbers on the older IH tractors. It was always a raised, machined, smooth surface about 1/2" high and 1.5" long with numbers stamped in the cast. I can't remember when or if that changed. If your thinking these numbers are the same or even close, it's not likely. Both the gas and diesel engines used in the 560 had many other applications, such as combines, dozers, stationary engines, other tractors, etc., so unless it is a very early 560 the engine serial number may be much larger than tractor serial number. If trying to determine if it is the original engine your best way would compare casting codes on engine with castings on the rest of tractor.
