1940 Farmall H Belt pulley color scheme

I recently aquired a belt pulley made out of what appears to be a tightly bound paper. It almost would appear it is made of wood but it's not. My question would be to have it painted as it originally was when it was new, what color should the paper parts be red like the hub of the pulley, or black or natural. Any ideas would be appreciated as I have seen combinations of a little of everything.
