Kelly: I had just the oposite of this happen in 1978. I had a new Chevy 3/4 ton pickup. Through the corner of my eye I saw a deer heading for road in front of me. Field level with the road bed and quite a ditch. He jumped the ditch, hit loose gravel and went down. When I got stopped he was right under cab, and man was he giving me a rough ride. He came out from under truck on drivers side, just clawing. He came to his feet and went head over heels into the other ditch. He got up from that, and will guarentee you I didn't dammage his legs. You talk about a deer move across the open field. I got out truck to see what damage truck had sustained. He must have been down flat and truck straddled him, there was no damage to truck. He did dig holes 2" deep in the hard wheel tracks of the gravel road, with his hooves. I know it would have taken a chisel for me to make those holes. They must have a lot of power in those little legs. I know their hoves are just like razors. A buddy of mine grabed a deer by the hind leg. Man did that deer slice him. Something like 20 stiches worth.
