I read that the correct way for rotary mowers to work at their best was with the front lower than the rear as mentioned in a couple earlier replies. This should definitely reduce your HP requirements, as you would be cutting the grass at least twice with the back low. I have a 140. I swapped for a 140 with an underbelly 60" deck and swapped back. It was a bit big to manouvre in the tight spots of my 2.5 acre yard, caught many limbs due to its 6 foot or so height, and to get the 540 rpm pto speed, the engine was running faster than I enjoy running the 140. The deck was a bit worn and it made quite a racket. Also was going to be a bit heavy when the yard was soggy in the spring. Also, the underbelly was a belt nightmare. I decided that I wanted to run my 140 at 800 or 900 RPM, and if I am going to use it to mow that either means reels or a powered pull behind deck. At a Tractor Supply Co in Tenessee I saw a pull behind deck with a 12 HP or so engine on it for under $700. My thinking is that your cub would be a better machine to pull this with than my 140. I love the 140 for light grading and snow removal.
