Oil pressure IHC D239 engine

I have a IHC 743 with a D239 engine, which has a problem with the oil pressure. The oil-pressure light on the dash goes on and off(after it runs a while)and I don't think it is an electrical problem. The motor runs well, starts well and does sound good. I am not sure that the oil I used is perfect, but for the rest everything should be ok. What could it be: pressure switch? worn out pump? sieve got stuck? I don't know where to start? Does somebody know what is most obvious?
