Hugh- You should have seen me in the shop last night argueing with myself about how to proceed. I too have always set solid rod lifters by watching rockers or cam followers but was so anxious to use my new manuals that I just wouldn't rest until I had it figured to spec. Maybe that part of the manual will end up out in the brush next to the timing light. (I've also always favored timing by ear, or how 'bout the trick of setting a glass of water on the hood to get the smoothest idle)I'm still not sure whether I've found the right mark, little things like this can really drive a fella mad when theres enough tome to fret over them.
