Never done this, so this is opinion speaking rather than experience. I would think that as long as the bearing surfaces of the teeth are in reasonably good shape, AND the tractor will not see continuous or frequent heavy use, it would be worth a shot. I'm assuming the tooth faces are hardened, and rust/pitting will affect the rate of wear on the facing. On my old F14, which will very likely never again see enough work to get the temperature gauge over 160, I'd go ahead. If it were on a later model that I was planning on hauling a plow or a field cultivator with, I probably wouldn't.
