As with time and technology has increased. The oil that had been used may not be correct. Do some research. Pull the valve cover and see how dirty the motor is. That can be a big sign of what oil was run in it. Pen-crap and Havabrokerod are the worst oils in my opinion. Castrol is one of the best synthetics. Been using it in a Honda 3-wheeler since 1984, not a problem. Never even been in the shop. Use Delo-400 in our diesel equipment. Its an awesome oil. Most recently, we began testing Royal Purple synthetic. Customer has a service shop and wanted it put in his JD 1050 (yanmar). Sounded horrible when he brought it in. Oil was clean, but with Royal Purple it sounded like a sewing machine. It is smooth. Overall, as long as the oil meets and hopefully exceeds the standards, you should be ok.
