I have heard good reports about the 84 series, but when I worked for the Kansas Ag Experiment Station, we bought a new 784. This tractor was a true lemon from day one. Injector pump needed repair after only a couple of hours, transmission shifter broke a pin inside that prevented it from shifting into 4th low range plus other transmission problems, front spindle broke (glad it wasn't in road gear at the time), Hydraulics would hang in the up position, other things I don't remember, we eventually sold it to the lowest bidder. The tractor only had a couple of thousand hours on it or less when we sold it and was well maintained and not abused. I know this goes against the grain of everything else I have heard, but it happened to us -- must have been a "Friday" tractor.
