Ron: In the Farmalls it was a short shaft with two couplers, Make sure on that second coupler in from pto, you don't want that floating around in there. As I recall the couplers are only held by the shaft itself. My main reason for posting is to give you a tip on doing this without draining. Just place tractor on a steep down grade, as long as you get front wheels 15 to 18 inches below rears, oil will flow foreward enough, for this. If this is just temperory I used a 3/4" plywood cover and continued using tractor without pto. Beauty of the plywood cover is you don't need to play around with gaskets. Save the plywood, it fits most IH tractors of that era.
