One good way of un-gunk-ing fuel system parts is to disassemble them and then soak the parts in Lime-Away. Gasoline sediment is on the alkali side of the spectrum, and Lime-Away is an acid. If you want to go more gently, it is possible that vinegar will also work. The good part about Lime-Away is that it eats rust at the same time as it degunks the fuel parts. Rinse well, because the iron oxides (rust) are changed into iron phosphates, which are water soluable. Be sure to neutralize the acid before reassembly. A mild solution of baking soda and water will do this. Rinse well.
