I shaved the head on my 400 (basically the same motor as yours). I went from 140# compression to 170#. On my head we took off 100 thousands of an inch, any more and we sould have been into the water jacket. The rocker arms should have enough adjustments on them to make up for the head being shaved (push rods will be ok...if nothing else, put a washer under rocker arm support bracket to make up difference).
