Hi Clanger, may be your transfert pump is worn. The return of the PTO circuit, go to the cooler then feed brake and lubricate upper shaft in the front gear-box ( 1234) The transfert pump give a back pressure to this circuit and lubricate pinion and bevel gear in rear housing, by a pipe below the tee where the sender is located. The overflow feed the main pump. If the transfert pump have not enough pressure, or flow, brake system don't work OK. If you have no much hill, you can remove the plug, as you say. It's a rubber plug, you have this one by the cover, on right side, in front of the rear axle. It's not a good idea, because the oil level is different in the 3 gear box. It's why you have to run the engine when you ckeck transmission oil level. On loader operation, when the transfert pump is worn, main pump may suck air because the rear housing gone empty. You may remove the plug in this case, but it's not like changing the pump. You may add 10 liters of oil when you remove the plug. Bernard le Mécano Québec Canada
