Dave A; That Napa price sounds a little high unlees you are including the core charge. For an A starter I believe the boys are selling my rebuilds in the $145-165 range($75.00 added for core charge which is returned when you send in old starter). You would get the core back since I can re-man the armature for $35-45 my cost. As for breaking shafts, although it does not happen alot, My guess is your starter does not have the intermediate bushing to help keep the force on the armature even while torquing the flywheel. That middle bushing helps alot. I would guess I see a broken armature 1 out of every 80 I rebuild. Any other questions just post back.
