I am a high school Ag instructor and I have a class that is working on restoring a Farmall F20. She ran well when we got her and we are preparing to paint her but, want to seal up a few leaks before we start. Our tractor has an add on road gear on the front of the transmission and leaks from around the shaft on the front side of the road gear box. We have taken off the cover plate of the gear box but, we can't get the plate off the shaft. On one side(the inside of the road gear box) we have a large gear. On the other side the universal-like joint that faces the engine. We can not find a keyway, set screw or pin holding the gear on the shaft. There seems to be a 1/2 inch collar just above where the splines of the shaft stop inside the large gear. We think this collar may have been pressed in to wdge the main shaft. We are just not sure and, I hate to start pressing on things until I know. Anyhow there seems to be some kind of gasket mounted into the front cover plate, this is what we hope we can get to and fix. Any help on this problem would be aprreciated. Oh yeah, our tractor is a 1939.
