Bob s. I am doing this job on a 41 A. The steering box Gene b mentioned is attached to the front end and comes off with it when you roll the front end forward. I think it is easier to take off the fan and the combination bracket/inlet (3 bolts to the front of the motor) than it is to take the fan assembly off by itself. Once the whole front end is pulled or rolled forward you have to pull fan pulley off the crankshaft (see archives for techniques and equipment used). Mine was loose and slid right off. Take off the cover plate, clean it. Carefully pull the old oil seal out from the inside. The pulley shaft is probably scored or grooved (wear from the old dirty oil seal) or it may have previously had a sleeve put on it to cover that groove. Mine was sleeved and the oil seal from IH is too small inside diameter to fit it. I got another one from Carquest (# 5121 $2.85- it's a little larger inside and the same diameter outside. I have polished the wear groove on the pulley sleeve. Grease inside the oil seal so the pulley slides on easy. I may have to trim the rubber dust flange on the front of the new oil seal but it won't hurt anything to do that. Also check the woodruff key for wear. It is 1/4" x 3/4". Good luck. greensboro george
