The rear seal retainer isn't hard to remove, it just has a lot of bolts. I don't think that the oil pan has to come off, just the little plate with the 3 bolts, and then the aluminum retainer. On mine, the retainer was warped, so I backed up the gasket with a bead of blue rtv. If you have the flywheel off, now is the time to do it.
