Super C charging question...

I got a small problem that I hope you guys can help with. I put a rebuilt generator and new voltage regulator on my tractor within the last year. A few weeks ago, I put a new exhaust manifold on this tractor and the governor rod got stuck wide open. When I started the tractor the engine ran full throttle, which caused my generator to "blow/vibrate" the band off of it, and it hasn't charged right since. My question is where would the problem be? Do I need a new voltage regulator or to take the generator to get it rebuilt? What do I need to check?
