Matt, if the 706 is setup similar to the 1066, there is a half moon key in the fork doing the actual shifting inside the tranny. This could be a sorce of slack if everything on the outside ckecks out. There is an inspection plate on the left side of the transmission that can be removed to see the fork. 706 may not be the same as the 1066, but I thought I'd mention it. Mitch
