Most paint in that era was produced with lead. Lead was very important to the durability of paint. If you have ever wondered why the old tractors paint seems to hold up better then todays paint its because of the lead content. If you are concerned about the contamination of the barn with the paint chips, you could drive/roll the tractor onto a piece of poly before you start wire brushing. When done roll off the tractor and most of the paint chips will be on the poly which you can fold up and throw away when your done.
