The dipstick that used to be attached to a washer at the filler pipe opening probably fell in to the resevoir (that's where I found mine when I rebuilt my pump). It probably won't hurt anything there. Until I rebuilt the pump, I used one fabricated out of allthread and a washer ground down to a size that would just fit under the cap. I determined the 'full' mark on the stick by draining the whole system, adding six quarts and marking the allthread where the oil came to. The allthread extends down from the top of the filler pipe 11 & 1/4". The top of the filler pipe extends about 1" above the top of the case. Hope this helps.
