As a young lad of about 12, I drove a "Regular" on the farm, then an F-30, finally an M. Can't remember if it was the Regular or the F-30, but one, maybe both, had steel steering wheels which got hot as blazes in the Oklahoma sun. Also, remember dad always telling me to keep my thumbs on the outside of the steering wheel, pointing up. If you got in a rut, the steering wheel could spin rapidly and break off your thumbs, if not held in the right way. Also remember tips from dad on cranking the old tractors. Always pull up on the crank, never put your weight on the down-side, pushing. If it were to backfire, it would "kick" back and break your arm. We raised cotton, then wheat, many times on the same acreage. Wheat planted in the fall, harvested in Spring. Cotton planted in Spring, sometimes in wheat "stubble", then harvested in Fall. This depleted the land, as this was in the late 40's and early 50's, before fertilizer. I remember being really glad when we got the M, which had an electric starter. No more cranking!! Jim
