It has the most torque of about any tractor I've ever driven, as it will carry a load in gears the 826 could only dream of using, like 400 bushel of manure up an incline dirt road hill near my farm in 4 High. 826 could do it wide open in 2 High, 856 can do it in 4 with half throttle. However, it'll really suck the fuel when you do that. The 826 is basically set up to help the operator with fuel efficiency as well, as it would be much more efficient to go up that hill in 2nd gear, but much more fun to watch 'er smoke in 4th gear. If I had my choice, I'd buy an 826. You could pull a plow of the same size, in virtually the same gear, at a third of the fuel. Search 826 in past posts, and you're bound to find me preaching more information about the same tractors. I love them both, and could never part with our 826 or the 856 we bought new. However, the other 856... I guess I can manage for the exchange of the 1456... this spring is going to be fun.
