Take an old belt that fits the pully ,dont need to be perfect,cut it and pull it around the pulleys lap the ends over mark with pencil.....pull it out measure ...that is the length you will need....I would push the alt. touching engine.....that way after running a day or two you still have room to re-tighten.....with out getting in the way......It works for me.
