sccwells, Judgeing by you opening statement, you havea running tractor. Since that is the case start with the small stuff. Compression test!, A good tune up...points,plugs,condencer, wires, distributor cap.
Check the wireing harness, If butchered there are good places to get new ones.
If the copression test are low, then a decision has to be made to do an overhaul, and that goes into a a new story, with problems, of its own.
pack the front wheel bearins. Maybe new tires?
Get the wear out of the seat assembly. New rubber bushings, shock absorber,etc.
The front bolster may need to be reworked, if there is still excess play in the steering after adjusting.
No matter the problem, that you run into on your tractor....There is a wealth of info here on this forum. Just ask, tell the symtoms and there is someone who can walk you through it...chapter & verse.
