The distributor looks like it came on the M (looks like original red paint on it). It has a 90' bend/vertical cap. Everything else on this M is Delco Remy and I'm about 99% sure the distributor is also. I changed the coil to a 12v today and replaced the push/pull switch (it was the culprit) and it fired up today after a few tries but needs new points, condensor, and plug wires. A couple other questions I'll post here in hopes that you guys will see this thread... (1)I assume that the throttle lever all the way back is idle, right? (2)After it cranked up today, it idled pretty high or at least it seemed to. Could this be caused by the shaft from the gov to carb being turned 180'? when it was installed after reinstalling the carb? When I pushed the lever forward, at some point it idled down... (3)Whats the shift layout on the M? (it would be nice to know so I don't go through the back of the barn in high gear) (4)It seemed to only want to crank when it was almost fully choked. I never really let it warm up much and after I cut it off it spit out a lot of gas out the air intake on the carb (had the air cleaner off cleaning it up) (5)One last thing... I noticed a few random sparks coming from the exhaust manifold while it was running (muffler was off cause its in a barn with low ceiling). Is this normal? The engine sounded strong anyway.
