I haven't been in a union shop since the 60's, but $65 shop rate is very common in the midwest, certainly not in the Northwest. Check what the shop rate is for your local auto repair shop, it's alot more than that, and their equipment is nothing compared to what a modern machine shop / mold making operation has to have in order to compete. I went out of business two years ago. All molds being built offshore are being built for the same cost as we had to pay for our out of pocket expenses, such as the steel, and mold bases. Thanks to a few greedy politicians who sold out this country for a few dollars in campaign funds from foreign countrys.
