A couple other things to add are 1)a 6788 has a hydraulic trans. brake instead of the mechanical brake on a 3788 so that when you step on the clutch & the trans. is in neutral the trans. stops right away. Its too bad IH didn't come out with something like that 20 years prior, it sure would have improved the shifting quality of the 06 Series through 86 Series although IH did make a kit to install it in the 86 Series in later years, but I don't know the kit is still available. 2) There were some trans. improvements in the 6788 over the 3788 as you cannot get some original 3788 parts anymore, you must change it over to a 6788 style. This is in the range transmission.
