The only stupid question is the one not asked. As for the T/A it depends on what you aare going to use the tractor for. If you plan on working it hard then it could be nice to have. But it is not essencial for the operation of the tractor. As for what could be wrong I do not know. I only know that it cost the previous owner of my 400 about a grand to replace the one in it. Welcome to the addiction and good luck.
