Someone told me one time "there are no stupid questions; just stupid people who ask questions." :> All smart-alecky answers aside, I was in the same boat more or less as you are now about 2 months ago trying to get some 460 hydraulics resolved. Thanks to the folks here, I got the problems noodled out. I think (am speculating) the 340 U Fast-Hitch is likely the same as the 460 in theory. The Tel-A-Depth (TADV for short) valve is the control valve you use to move the hitch up and down. The TADV gets its signal to shut off from the feedback linkage you are mentioning once the hitch height has been selected. Our 460's linkage was broken and was welded by the previous owner. For years it was unhooked. My brother reconnected it several years ago and the hydraulics (hitch height hunting up and down) smoothed out. Not entirely so, but the residual problems were elsewhere. As for HOW it works...well...that is a mystery to me also. Let's just say IT DOES work. Our TADV has inside it a differential gear box that senses hitch position AND control valve lever position. The rod linkage and TADV control differential gears MUST be in working order for everything to get along. Get a manual and then repair the linkage. You'll need to go thru a step-by-step process for the correct rod linkage adjustment. The I&T manual will do a good job of explaining this for you. Keep us posted.
