Worn main bearings will most likely cause low oil pressure. If you are hearing a knock or clunk, you will probably need more than shells. To replace the bearings, you should figure on splitting the tractor and removing the crank.

The mains can be done without splitting the tractor, but unless you need it for plowing next week, why not take it apart and fix everything that needs fixing ? I think mains were about $60 from the local IH dealer.
