The charging system on my Farmall 404 gas 12v is giving me fits. Battery dies after a few hours of operation /amp light blinks. Then it won't start, not enough juice to starter. I have replaced the voltage regulator, generator, & battery in that order (& obviously don't know what I'm doing). No change. I searched past posts on charging trouble shooting. I grounded the f terminal on the generator under load & it seemed to indicate regulator trouble because the rpms droppped (carging)when it grounded. The ground on the voltage regulator was not good so I ran a wire from the regulator body to a good ground point on the regulator mounting plate. The amp light now goes off and the voltmeter on the tractor shows 12 volts at rpm (but no more) but now the engine misses badly & backfires at mid rpm. I unhook the new ground & motor purrs like it always has but I'm back to discharging & less than 10 volts on the guage. If someone can point me in the right direction I'd be much obliged. Thanks. Rich
