I don't know much about your exact problem... but I do know about spliting a A ! If you are mechanically inclined I believe you can do the job. My advice would be to use a ton of common sense, chalk the wheels, think about how you are going to support the tractor when split and take your time ! Another good suggestion is to take pictures, get the manuals and start in a fairly clean work place where you can keep the parts organised and together. From my experience rebuilding the motor, everything was designed so you don't have to be a master mechanic to fix. I also relied heavily on this forum to answer any questions I had. Finally, I would suggest you have a hydraulic engine lift. The lift will definately save your back, or you helpers, but again use caution and common sense. My 2 cents. Brian.
