Not necessarily, once the oil warms up and thins out, it looks for any gap to leak from. It could be increased clearance on the bearings, wear on the oil pump end plate, or a leaky pump shim. Usually it is the simple stuff that goes wrong. You will have to take it apart to fix it. When you do, check the journals with plastigage before you remove the old bearings. That way you will know what shape they are in. If they are at more than 0.004", you'll have a good idea where to start. While you have the pan down, it would not hurt to look at the oil pump.
