My MTA has the original light but is attached to an angle bracket directly to the deck on the left side of battery box (facing tractor from rear) using the deck bolt that is already there. All of it is painted and the bracket is not one you would find at the hardware. Manual shows a mounting more like what you describe. I am thinking there may have been more than one way this was done. Or it may be that mine was modified later. Doesn't answer the question but I thought it would be of interest.
