help a new guy please

Hi, I just bought a 41 H and it basically is a basket case, but thats what I wanted, something I could build and fix myself. What better way to learn these things. It has the gas/distillate engine and my question is should I rebuild using this head or find a gas? I get so many different opinions I don't know what to do. Naturally I have the power bug, but I don't want to go too crazy with this. I plan on doing the whole motor so before I buy or have pistons made I have to decide which head to use. I've been told to use a 300 head, mill my head, or if I was lucky I could find a propane head. Really I have no clue where to start with this. Would love for someone to get me pointed the right direction.
