It's been a couple of years since I did one of those, need to do another one. When I put the 1st one together, I thought it would leak, it didn't, or maybe just a seep. The new seals are completely different, but they are better. Since they are so thin, you may be able to use two, if there is room. Be sure the lip of the seal faces inward towards the oil. If you can't drive the seal out from the back, just dig it out, but don't scratch or otherwise damage the retainer. The seal has a metal backing with it, it will come out with the seal. In order, from the inside out, my parts book shows 3 shims (I believe the number can vary, just use your old ones), then the inner bearing cup, bearing, gasket, seal, spacer, as you say I think the spacer rides inside the seal. It does not list a felt washer.
