.002 over Rod Bearings?

We punched the pistons out a buddy's M to re-ring it yesterday. The rod bearings were a little scatched and pitted so we were going to put new ones in. But the bearings do not have a STD or other oversizing stamped into them. There is an 002. One of the guys said he thought he'd heard of .002 over bearings. Was something like this available? I assume it would be done to increase oil pressure over a standard bearing without turning the crank.
