The first thing would be to remove the cover and take a look inside, from what you describe, I don't think anything is broken, but I'll bet you find quite a bit of wear. Most of the parts you may need are still available through the dealer, or, if you are handy, you can pretty much rebuild what you have without buying any new parts. I could describe step by step what needs to be done, but if you do a search of the archives I think you will find all the info you need. If you still have questions, just ask.
