With a lot of help from this group, I got the engine on my H overhauled and running reasonably smoothly. Now the transmission growls when in any gear except 5th. It does not growl when free-wheeling, so I don't think the problem is with the differential or final drives. I tore it apart, replaced all the seals as well as a couple of gears and bearings that looked bad. When I put it back together, I still have the same growl. Based on some recent posts, I am inclined to think the shifting fork(s) may be bent or out of position allowing/causing 5th gear to rub. My questions: Does this analysis sound right? If so, can anyone provide any insight into how to adjust the forks or otherwise fix the problem? Can it be fixed without completely removing the tranny cover? Thanks for any help with this as well as past help with the engine, front bolster, brakes, etc! This board provides some fantastic advice!
