H Head 8043-DC9 or no. 361479-R1

I have a H with head no. 8043-DC9
On the dino it had 42hp. max. It has 3 7/16 {the best i can measure with tape) high dome pistons in it. I found a head off of a 350 361479-R1. manafold, carb.put it on and it now has 36 hp. What happen? I worked it in the field and it ran good. After i ran it for a while it got hot. When it set and idaled it started to put out white smoke.I took the plugs out to do a compression test and no 2 shot out water. took the head off and it had a head gasket out. The compression was 130 -135.I got a new head gasket and i don't know which head to put on! Did I lose power from Head or carb.?
