I don't know if I am the guy you are looking for but I commented on a stump puller picture some time ago. I am interested in finding out more about them, the one we had Grandpa told me the name was "Hawes" it was probably built in the 1880's, it was like a huge tripod with a long sweep which horses pulled around in a circle which turned a drum that wound up a chain going through several pulleys, this is the best I can describe of how I think it was, I never actually saw it and have no pictures, just the remains back behind the barn, the drum must weigh at least 300 pounds.
